Things
to do on Campus
A few suggestions: Nitobe Memorial Garden -
a traditional Japanese garden, the famous Museum of Anthropology,
and the UBC
Botanical Garden.
One of the best short outings on campus is a trip to Wreck Beach -
a beautiful undeveloped and wild beach right at the foot of the campus.
There are several trails leading down to the beach. To go straight to
the main beach, take trail 6, accessible from Marine Drive, just north
of University Blvd. You can hike north along the beach and go back up
to campus on one of the other trails. Trail 3 starts at the
intersection of NW Marine Dr. and Chancellor Blvd, close to the Museum
of Anthropology. Note that the beach is clothing optional.
There are three pubs on campus: Koerner's, located on the lower level
of the Graduate Student Center, the Pit, located on the lower level of
the Student Union Building (SUB) and Mahoney's, located on University
Blvd., just west of the intersection with Wesbrook Mall.

Things to do in the City
Vancouver is a beautiful city -
lots of
green spaces, parks, long beaches and mountains. The most well
known attractions are Stanley Park,
Granville
Island, Grouse
Mtn., and Capilano
Bridge. Other places of interest: the promenade along the
beach and around False Creek, Science
World, the Van-Dusen
Gardens, the Vancouver
Aquarium, and Queen
Elizabeth Park.
Granville St. (between Davie and Robson) is the main entertainment hub
for Vancouver nightlife. The best source of information
about what's happening in the city is the Georgia Straight.
It is a free weekly magazine which can be picked up on campus, on
street corners, in some stores or just read it online.
|
Restaurants
There are many restaurants along
Broadway St. (take bus #99, get off
and walk around), Commercial Drive is a lively area (take #99 to
Commercial), W 4th ave (between Vine and Burrard, take #4), W 1st and
Cypress, and downtown (take #99 and
transfer to #98 at Granville) Robson St., Davie St. (between
